Looe
Looe Island, a Threshold Between Worlds
From the coastal path at Looe, the trail winds upward along the cliffs until an island comes into view, a green dot set in a sunlit sea. At first glance it seems a simple scene of nature, yet look closer and you find layers of history, spirit and story. In the early Middle Ages it sheltered hermits, later pilgrims paused here, guided by a chapel to St Michael that for centuries marked the island on the horizon. Today it is a sanctuary for nature.
Looe Island weaves together myth, faith, and wild beauty. It speaks of nearness and distance: so close you could almost reach out to touch it, yet always just beyond grasp.
Many call this a thin place where, in the Celtic Christian tradition, the veil between heaven and earth grows light, and the ordinary world is pierced by the timeless.
