When Time Falls Still

Those who set out on a hike often measure the day in distance and speed. A pilgrimage follows a different rhythm: it teaches you to linger, to pause, to let the world come to you. In those pauses, space opens to connect with nature and culture, with the landscape and its buildings, with people and their stories.

Walking and photographing merged into the same lesson: slow down, reduce speed. More than once I retraced my steps to catch a church, a Celtic cross or a rugged coastline in truer perspective, in the light that revealed its soul. The journey became slower, but infinitely richer. Walking and photographing merged into the same lesson: slow down, reduce speed.

The hardest part along the way? Not the walking itself, but having to say goodbye and let go, again and again. Perhaps that is one of the deeper lessons of pilgrimage.
